Illiteracy in America is an epidemic that impacts millions of children by 4th grade
Is your toddler at risk?
• Over 8 million American school children cannot read!• Nearly 20% of all elementary students have significant reading problems. • Reading failure for minority students ranges from 60 to 70%. • About 90 million American adults are functionally illiterate! • One third of poor readers nationwide are from college-educated families! Illiteracy is ruining the lives of children in the United States and throughout the world. I have observed young students sinking into their seats, covered with shame and embarrassment, when asked to read. There is no reason that any child should have to suffer the psychological trauma illiteracy has on them. Parents can protect their little ones from illiteracy, by teaching them to read during the first five years of life.
How can you protect your child?
1. Protecting your child from illiteracy begins with daily lap reading. Daily reading expands your child’s vocabulary, and gives them a foundation of background knowledge to build their reading skills on. 2. Register your child for free monthly books, as you establish your daily reading routine. 3. Watch the “How to” video to learn them simple methods and process we used to teach our toddlers how to read. As more and more parents discover the benefits of early childhood reading, illiteracy will decrease throughout America, one child at a time. Learn how you can teach your toddler to read, as you finish this seven part series.
